Labor Day is more than the end of summer. It is a time to recognize the skill, effort, and determination of workers—and to prepare people for the work ahead. These students are doing that by designing and building a model bridge. Through hands-on STEM learning, they are using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to solve problems, test ideas, measure accurately, and improve their design. They are also developing workplace skills that every employer values: teamwork, patience, communication, creativity, and persistence when something does not work the first time. Projects like this connect classroom lessons with real careers in engineering, construction, manufacturing, architecture, and technology. On Labor Day, we honor the people whose knowledge and hard work built our communities. We should also celebrate the students gaining the skills, confidence, and curiosity needed to become the skilled workforce of tomorrow.
